(Amelia Island, FL) - January 29, 2020 - Ah, the sweet smell of success! Congressman John Rutherford (FL-04) took a spin in the kitchen with the artisans at Amelia Toffee Company’s new facility and toffee shop in Amelia Island, Florida, to create a fresh, tasty batch of the company’s legendary Bourbon Toffee. While that’s certainly a notable and delicious news item, it’s certainly not the end of the story.
As the saying goes, candy is dandy (as a taste of the company’s unique toffee proves) – but ATC’s Bourbon Toffee is more than just a buttery, chocolate-coated delight. It’s just one of the many toffee company’s Florida partnerships that bring together growing businesses to create jobs and synergetic, sustainable growth. That makes their toffee not only tasty, but a vital part of Florida’s small business sustainability and the state’s economic growth.
For the Congressman’s visit, Amelia Island-based Marlin & Barrel Distillery founder Roger Morenc brought a fresh batch of the toffee’s special ingredient: Marlin & Barrel’s Shoreline Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Together, with Amelia Toffee Company founder Anita Comisky, the trio toured the facility, which included a walk-through of ATC’s new kitchen facilities and front of house store, and an opportunity for the Congressman to pitch in on creating a batch of the company’s famous toffee featuring the flavor of Marlin & Barrel’s Shoreline Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
“The Northeast Florida economy is powered by small and growing businesses like Amelia Toffee Company and Marlin & Barrel,,” Congressman Rutherford said. “These local companies are wonderful examples of the creativity and ingenuity that make Florida such a special place.”
“Roger and I are helping one another build our businesses and support our communities,” Comisky said. “Keeping our dollars local and supporting one another creates products, local jobs, and products we can all be proud of.”
Of course, no tour would be complete without a generous sampling of their creations. The hosts graciously offered plenty of delicious toffee treats to their guests.
“It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to meet the people behind the making of this delicious Florida-based toffee,” Congressman Rutherford said. “These companies are the embodiment of what I am working to foster throughout the state.”
Comisky added that the company will be releasing a new Bourbon-based flavor created with Marlin & Barrel’s Shoreline Straight Bourbon Whiskey, which will be available locally through Amelia Toffee Company’s store, website, and through vendors across the country.
