SAN FRANCISCO, CA – September 6, 2022 – Plant-based cookie brand Love + Chew just got a protein power boost by teaming up with upcycled food company Renewal Mill to feature Renewal Mill’s Upcycled Oat Milk Flour in its latest release. This new flavor, “Peanut Butter Chip” boasts 10g of fiber and 10g of vegan protein per cookie, coming from a combination of oat milk flour, peanut butter, chickpea flour, and almond flour.
According to founder Lauren Chew, Peanut Butter Chip is the first flavor in the “The Protein Cookie” set that Love + Chew plans to release in coming months. It’s also the first protein cookie specifically marketed at women. As opposed to more masculine cookie brands in the protein bar aisle like Lenny’s & Larry’s or Quest, Love + Chew offers a high protein solution that is also better for you and better for the planet.
This mission resonated with Renewal Mill’s female co-founders, Claire Schlemme and Caroline Cotto, who worked with Chew’s team on this innovation. Renewal Mill’s Upcycled Oat Milk Flour, which launched on retail shelves at Whole Foods earlier this summer, is made from harvesting the nutritionally-rich pulp leftover after making oat milk and transforming it into gluten-free flour. With more than 31g of plant-based protein per ½ cup serving, oat milk flour is a vegan-friendly way to boost the protein content of baked goods without relying on common fallbacks like whey protein.
But for Love + Chew, the decision to use Upcycled Oat Milk Flour was more than just nutritional. "We decided to incorporate Renewal Mill’s upcycled ingredient into our newest line because food waste is one of the largest drivers of climate change. The result is a tasty, high protein cookie where you don't have to compromise," said CEO Lauren Chew. For Renewal Mill’s part, Caroline Cotto added, “We love partnering with women-owned, Bay Area brands who are inspired to take their sustainability commitments to the next level. Partnering with Lauren was a no-brainer.”
Love + Chew joins the growing ranks of brands using Renewal Mill’s Upcycled Certified™ ingredients in their products including Pulp Pantry, Square Baby, Tia Lupita, Seconds Crackers, Pezzy Pets Treats, Shuggie’s Trash Pie + Natural Wine, Annie’s T Cakes, and more.
